What
is Custom Digitizing?
Digitizing your art for embroidery requires a few things, embroidery
software,
an educated designer/digitizer, and clean artwork to work with. The
embroidery
software allows one to recreate the artwork into an embroidery file for
an
embroidery machine to read. Essentially, it is creating the stitch
points,
color changes, trims and stitch values to be sewn onto the garment or
substrate. While printing and silk screening is a flat, two dimensional
media,
embroidery is a three dimensional embellishment that requires the
artwork to be
digitized in a language that a sewing machine can read and understand.
The need for clean artwork is necessary for the digitizer to recreate
the
design as close to the original art as possible. The better the artwork
is, the
better your design will turn out. Once the design is digitized and the
embroidery file is created, it can be edited for different fabrics, and
sewn as
it is needed. That is why it is to every ones advantage to get the
cleanest
artwork possible to achieve the right results involved with this step
of the
embroidery process.
Embroidery designs are scalable, but only to a certain point, usually
about
5%-10% depending on the elements of the design itself. For example, if
you have
your design digitized at 3" tall for a left chest design, scaling to a
jacket back size would likely destroy the design as stitch lengths and
stitch
values would be altered to such a degree that it would virtually ruin
the design
and/or garment. The same goes for scaling a design down from a larger
size, as
stitch lengths would tend to decrease and densities would not be
correct for
that size of design. It is recommended that you purchase the designs
that suit
your embroidery needs, and that will help us achieve quality results
for you.
Q&A:
Q: Will my design need to be
digitized for every order?
A: No, once we have your design on file, we can use it over and over
again for
any re-orders you may have in the future. Worst case scenario your
design may
need to be scaled or edited to suit the fabric or garment you choose.
Q: Why can’t we use the same design for my caps or shirts for
a full size
jacket back (or vice-versa)?
A: Embroidery designs require the proper stitch values to sew correctly
on our
equipment. If your design needs to be larger, it should be digitized
for the
larger size, the same as the smaller size has the correct values to sew
properly for that embellishment.
Q: Can you digitize a copyrighted logo?
A: In most cases NO. This can only be done if I
have the Copyright holders WRITTEN PERMISSION. I can Not do
Professional Sports logo's either.
Q:
I have a business card with my design on it, is that clean enough
artwork?
A: Every design has its own challenges when it comes to creating your
embroidery. Sometimes simple graphics can be achieved from the smaller
artwork,
but detailed designs and lettering need to be very clear and crisp in
order for
the digitizer to reproduce the artwork as close as possible to the
original.
Smaller artwork tends to be very unclear when scaled up to a larger
size for
the digitizing process, losing its crispness and clarity needed for
creating a
sharp embroidery design. A basic rule of thumb for lettering
is:
IF
YOU CAN'T WRITE IT LEGIBLY WITH A CRAYON, IT CAN'T BE DIGITIZED AT THAT
SIZE.
Q: I don't have any artwork, but I have an idea sketched out on paper,
can you
work from that?
A: Depending on the actual needs the design has, it would likely have
to be
sent to a graphic artist to create the clear art for us to work with.
Q: I have a sticker that I want reproduced onto 1 hat, can
that be done?
A: Yes, it can be done but the digitizing will most likely
cost you more than the hat.
